Leen Batal
Leen Batal is a Syrian artist; born in 1975 in Paris. Her talent in painting started in a very early stage of her life; in 1981 she won the Gold Prize of the first international Kanagawa biennial world children’s art exhibition.
Leen is an active actor in the Syrian art scene, she has participated in over 10 collective and solo exhibitions, and she is constantly developing new artistic concepts and initiatives.
In 1993 Leen has joined the Fine Art Faculty of Damascus University – Department of Visual Communications, and has graduated in 1997 with the best graduation project in her promotion. During her studies, she joined an international Visual Communication workshop for 6 months in Marly le Roi – France (1995), where she had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with several international students and artists. Her collaboration led to an international collective exhibition at the end of the workshop.

Since her graduation, Leen has participated in several collective and solo exhibitions.
Leen is continuously refining her own visual vocabulary inspired from the traditional African, South-American arts and the Syrian traditional handwork.
In addition to her painting activities, Leen has her own handcraft brand Laf-Loof, and she is permanently working on the development of her artisan handwork concept based on a fine combination of pure Syrian artisanal basic materials to produce trinkets, bags and other decorative elements.
